Measured performance of a special-purpose database engine for distributed system software

This paper reports the measured performance of a special-purpose database engine that was developed to meet the requirements of modern, open and distributed, systems. The database engine is memory based, relational and supports properties that enable it to be used as an object based system. As the goal of this database engine is to support general functions needed in distributed system, we justify the feasibility of our database engine realization by a numerical example involving a telephone switching system. The example shows, that the measured database engine performance is of the correct magnitude for the needs of a real distributed system.
